My, My! I Do Love Dancing!

Saturday’s party was a HUGE success!  We had about 150 in attendance–  I didn’t even know some of the people.  A big thanks to the Petersons and Nelsons who arrived early and set up the table centerpieces and some great food.

We started out with eating, then we took pictures of everybody who came in costume, the BLACKS gave an update on their work in Ethiopia, and then we played a game.  Shortly afterwards, The beaus found their belles and the dancing commenced.*

We did a lot more dances then we did at the Abingdon Barn Dance last November, so that was fun.  Everyone especially got a kick out of the "Sweetheart Chassez".  In that one, the gentleman line up on one side and the ladies on another.  There are three chairs at the front of the room.  It starts with a gentleman sitting in the middle chair and two ladies come from their line and sit in either chair beside him.  The gentleman then has to decide which one he wants to chassez (kinda like a hop-step) down the aisle with.  The rejected lady recieves the hat he is holding.  She then moves to the middle chair, two gentlemen come, she picks one and the other sits in the middle chair, so he can pick next, and so on.  I never had to pick, but I was chosen when I sat down.

After we finished the American Civil War dances, we did some Scottish Country Dances, which are much faster.  I think everyone’s favorite was the Gae Gordon.

I really enjoyed seeing whole families participating in the dancing.  We had all ages dancing at once– and it was especially sweet witnessing 20-something year old gentlemen dancing with 4 year old little ladies.

I danced every dance, which was very fun.  But you know who my favorite partners were?  11 year old Joshua Johnston, and another young fellow named Jacob (not Austin, though he was charming as well), who I met there.  I think he was about 12 or 13.

All in all, I think most people enjoyed themselves, and it is always refreshing to be with a group of like-minded people.  Oh, and guess what– we even got the Baptists to dance– they just couldn’t resist.

Pictures to come when we get ’em.

*Quote paraphrased from Ishmael by E.D.E.N. Southworth. And "beaus" and "belles" does NOT mean "sweethearts" in this context.  Just to clarify.  🙂

Just hearing about the fun makes this fundamental independent baptist want to get up and dance! *gasp* Actually, the gasping would be for my skills in the art of dancing…or rather the lack thereof…

Can't wait to see the pics!

How come no one has posted pics or even MENTIONED the baby goat that got to come to the dance? That was so funny! And Paulie says he wants you to find a dance class closer to Knoxville so that the Estabrooks can come and learn, too. Paulie must be NUTS if he thinks I'm driving him 4 hours round trip each week!

    What Fun!!

Of course you danced every dance – you were the birthday girl!! I loved your dress, btw – which I didn't get to tell you. What talent. Some of my fondest memories are making the girls' quilts with them – our first sewing (and quilting) projects *ever*! I still have Rachel's to help her with.

150 people! Wow! It was so fun watching them! I agree; I had to literally stand up and watch Sharra's little girl as she made the circle, skipping.. how precious. I am so happy Hannah and Eric could participate.

Thank you for all you did. I know the girls so enjoyed spending time with you. I did too. You are quite a young lady. God has blessed us greatly – your Mom and me – by giving us such lovely daughters we can count as friends too!

Ah… the baby goat… entertainment for Isaac and Caleb!

I *had* to apologize to Ryann… so I will to you too… about the trip home from the dance o:) – Isaac was such an angel last night when Mr. Dixon and I went to eat last night- imagine that!

Thank you again, Coie. We had such a wonderful time!

It sounds like your party was so much fun!!! I have not really ever danced before, but I think it sounds fun (that kind of dancing anyway). By the way, Happy Birthday!

P.S. Whats that site that you got your pattern off?

  11. Happy Birthday Coie!

I posted a picture of you talking with Mrs. Johnston at your birthday barn dance. You can see your dress pretty well there, but I hope there are some better FULL views but not too far away that it is hard to see— that we can find, or that others took. You looked lovely at the dance!

Someday I hope to be able to sew like you!

Maybe when I'm older… but before I get the sr. citizens discount.

    We love you!

    Mrs. A. & all the JA's

PS The goat loved the dance too.

Actually when we arrived back home, he got his own little barn dance. Jessica felt sorry for him being caged up all day, so she danced all over the place with him in her hoop skirt. He jumped and chased her every where, he seems to love hoop skirts… it was so funny to watch.

Do your kids like to dance too?

PPS Thank you for all the candies and goodies… delicious! What a treat!
