E.D.E.N Southworth

We have been soooo busy! My next post will be composed of numerous pictures without explanation and you, my reader, may interpret them as you wish.
In more interesting news, my momsie purchased some old books for me by Mrs. E.D.E.N Southworth. I’ve only read one of her books, The Hidden Hand (published by Lamplighter), and I love it. Mrs. Southworth was probably the most popular and best paid author of her time (during the 1800’s) in America, and if you read one of her books, you’ll see why. Today, nobody has heard of her. I am currently borrowing Ishmael and Self Raised from my aunt right now. These are also by E.D.E.N Southworth and published by Lamplighter. I will let you know how they are (so far Ishmael is great!). Anyways, one of the three books that my mom bought me was printed in I think 1872 and requires the gentlest handling. Another was printed around 1906 and on the inside it says, "To Lucille, from Mama Xmas 1914". How neato is that?!
Ok, I must go. We are leaving for MI tomorrow and will be back on Friday.

I am ashamed to admit that I, an avid reader, do not know of that author. But I will most definitely be looking into her works now!

I'm sorry James is sick and you didn;t get to go on your trip. I hope he feels better soon. I found on of those books by that author. I will read it and let you know what I think.
